Bharatpur is highly popular for housing the Bharatpur bird Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is home to over 350 species of birds, including numerous rare and highly endangered species. The Park houses beautiful flora as well and has rightly earned the status of World Heritage Site.

Lohagarh Fort, surrounded by moat, also looks magical. This fort faced numerous attacks in the past; however, it still stands high with pride. History enthusiasts must explore the Government Museum of Bharatpur situated inside the Lohagarh Fort. The museum displays souvenirs belonging to Maharaja Balwant Singh, the then ruling king of Bharatpur. Some of the popular exhibits include sculptures, inscriptions, coins, arms and weapons and decorative art objects. There is also a Public Library for book lovers where they can read books on various topics. Also save some time to visit the Deeg Fort built by Raga Suraj Mal. Though the Fort is almost in ruins now, its architecture is still heart pleasing.

Among the religious places of importance, the name of Chawad Devi Temple always tops the list. The temple highlights history, culture and traditions of the region and is visited by many locals and travelers. The beauty of Laxman Mandir is also remarkable. It grabs the attention of visitors due to its intricately carved doors, embroidered walls and extravagant arches. The temple honors the brotherly virtues between Laxman and Lord Ram. One must also visit Ganga Mandir of Bharatpur which took almost 90 years in completion. The temple houses a 4 feet statue of King Bhagiratha and gives ample of mental peace.

Months from November to February are perfect to relish the beauty of Bharatpur. This is also the time when thousands of migratory birds flock here.

By Air: The nearest airport to Bharatpur is in Agra, however, this airport is serviced by very few flights. Thus, the closest major airports are Jaipur International Airport and Delhi Airport.
By Rail: Bharatpur lies on the Delhi-Agra and Delhi-Mumbai train route. Thus, rail journey to reach here is extremely convenient.
By Road: Bharatpur is served by numerous state run and private bus services. Self drive option is also available
