Bikaner

Bikaner is a major city of Rajasthan which lets you understand the deeply rooted history of the state. Junagarh Fort is undoubtedly the most spectacular attraction here built in the year 1593 by Raja Rai Singh.  The fort complex is home to many temples and palaces. Visit here and fall in love with its intricate galleries, grand lawns, and delicate windows. Some of the must explored features of the fort include Karan Mahal, Anup Mahal, Chandra Mahal and Phool Mahal. Karni Mata Temple is another magical wonder of Bikaner. This is a holy shrine renowned for sizable populace of rats which are worshipped and fed by the pilgrims. The temple is devoted to Karni Mata, a form of Goddess Durga. Around 20,000 rats dwell here.

History seekers must also explore the grand Gajner Palace edging a lake. It was raised by the former ruler of the Bikaner, Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji. It is a marvelous wonder of craftsmanship and stands in the middle of a thick forest. Lallgarh Palace is another caretaker of its legendary history. The palace has an extravagant Rajputana design which makes many jaws drop. Here you will see miniature paintings apart from a collection of Sanskrit Manuscripts and plaques of silver, copper and gold. Some of the exhibits here are so old that they have their history going back to Harappan culture and Kushan and Gupta Age.

Also, do not miss a chance to visit the unique National Research Centre on Camel of Bikaner. Here you can spot over 230 camels of 3 distinct breeds. The place teaches you a lot about camel breeding. It is a great place to enjoy camel rides and feed camels.

The best time to visit Bikaner is from October to March when the weather remains pleasant and cooler to enjoy sightseeing. Months from March to June are hottest with temperature reaching up to 42 degree Celsius. July to September bring moderate rainfall when weather becomes humid due to rain.

By Air: The closest airport to Bikaner is Jodhpur Airport at a distance of 251 kilometers.
By Rail: Bikaner has two railheads- Bikaner Junction and Lalgarh Railway Station. Thus, rain connectivity is fairly good here.
By Road: Bikaner is served by numerous state run and private bus services. Self drive option is also available.
